The Wittenberg Door

Emmanuel Lutheran Church’s Newsletter

Wittenberg Door Emmanuel Lutheran Church Bremerton

The name, “Wittenberg Door” comes from the historical event which became a turning point in the sixteenth century Protestant Reformation.

On All Saints’ Eve, October 31, 1517, Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the door of the Wittenberg Church (a place traditionally used as a bulletin board). Luther challenged a number of abuses that had crept into the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The posting of the issues he considered to be unbiblical, was a public invitation to any other minister or theologian who thought they were valid.

Today our “Wittenberg Door” is the Church Newsletter of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, an American Association of Lutheran Churches congregation. Emmanuel joyfully declares the same Good News of Jesus, based on the same high trust in the Scriptures as held by the Reformers.  Emmanuel’s news and stories of its people are offered in this newsletter.
